Hating Jews – Boycotting Israeli Universities

So what does it take to get one's universities boycotted by the British Association of University Teachers (AUT)? Does killing 10s of thousands of civilians get you boycotted? Nope, not good enough. Perhaps that's not a direct enough comparison. How about invading a territory, killing its people and moving in huge numbers of one's own population in order to assert de-facto control? Nope, that won't do it either. Perhaps outright genocide? No, that won't cut it. So if killing civilians, ethnic cleansing and genocide don't merit boycotts, what does? Being Jewish will do it. Antisemitism seems too sterile a term for the AUT's actions. Perhaps Jew hatred more directly captures it?

I have no trouble understanding why many people would have serious problems with Israel's policies in the occupied territories. I have no trouble understanding why people would want to take action to try and stop Israel's policies there. But the difference between honest protest and Jew hatred is consistency. As demonstrated above AUT's actions are completely inconsistent which lets one know that the criteria they are using for their boycott targets is something other than human rights.

I don't get it either. Go see Kingdom of Heaven. It makes an interesting point: the cross, the crescent moon, the six-pointed star of David; which symbol do you swear allegiance to?

I suppose it seems odd, but I am beggining to wonder if Goverment isn't just another form of religion. If so, “why can't we all just get along?” All peoples of the earth have been conqured, all stereo-types have done things that deserve reprimand, but not all people that fall into a specific categorization deserve the same treatment.

First and foremost, we are all humanbeings, regardless of what we think we are, or who we think we are. We all have problems, we all have successes, we all have a story to tell. Just because someone is a Jew, or a vegetarian, or a WASP, or a Muslim, or a Buddhist, or Hindu, or American Indian, WTF is the point of being prejudiced?

And thanks to all that are prejudiced. You hippocritical bastards are screwing up my planet. I feel sometimes like the parent that just wants to spank their children and demand everyone play nicely.

  2. It would be nice if this was the only case from 2005 and it stopped. But it isn’t, I just read here Another Year of Global Academic Anti-Semitism that the AUT is not the only one that proudly sports their Anti-Semitism. I think the part that disheartens me the most is the lack of media attention to it all. It goes unnoticed and therefore doesn’t exist to most of the free world. Most are not familiar with “Israel Apartheid Week” unless your a Jew. Trust me, we feel unwelcomed quite a few places in today’s society it seems.
